The Hub has been a go-to bar and grill in historic downtown Centralia for over 90 years, but now that it’s been remodeled and reopened under new management (by the co-owner of McFiler’s in Chehalis), it’s a deservedly popular destination.
Their new, improved menu has a fantastic selection of dishes to choose from. I went with the Bacon Bleu Burger with lettuce, tomato, onion, 🥒, “goop,” mayo, bacon and blue cheese.
1 Aesthetics — Gorgeous presentation! Would look even sexier with visible tomato and green, whole leaf lettuce, but the generous portion of bacon and gooey blue cheese convey plenty of drama. 8
2 Flavor — Damn, that’s a tasty burger! The combination of peppery bacon and savory blue cheese is mouthwateringly magical. 8.5
3 Mouthfeel — Exquisite! Perfect juicy patty with just enough char. Lots of crispy bacon. If it had crispy veggies, it would be perfect. 7.5
4 Quality/Freshness — Great! The menu specifies hand pressed, never frozen, 100% beef. The bacon and bun, too, were high quality and very fresh. 8
5 Integrity — For such a tall, juicy burger, this sandwich was structurally sound. Bonus points for careful construction. Demerits for shredded lettuce. 8
6 Atmosphere — The new decor is very hip, with mood lighting, pop art, movie posters, mod wallpaper, and contemporary design elements. 8.5
7 Service — Good service, perhaps a little slow, but worth the wait. 7
8 Satisfaction — Satiety achieved! 8
9 Creativity/Uniqueness — They’ve clearly put a lot of thought and care into the menu overall, as well as the look and flavor profile of this burger in particular. Success! 8
10 Value — Too expensive at $17, but at least it comes with bottomless fries! 6
I’m a fan. Recommended.
