PT Soda Fountain & Diner (Port Townsend)
Date: June 6, 2025
Location: 817 Water Street, Port Townsend WA
Picture a classic 1950s diner: lunch counter, soda fountain, black and white checkerboard floor, pink and turquoise vinyl booths, tiny tabletop jukeboxes, and plenty of retro sock hop/poodle skirt/car culture swag. Can you see it? Welp, that’s PT Soda Fountain & Diner, serving up burgers, salads, shakes, ice cream, phosphates, floats, and oodles of nostalgia.
Stopping in for lunch on a sunny summer day, I ordered The Deluxe Burger, a 1/3 LB grilled beef patty with American cheese, tomato, lettuce, onion, pickles, and sauce, on a toasted sesame seed bun.
1 Aesthetics — Gorgeous! If the lettuce was green it would be nearly perfect. 8.5
2 Flavor — Savory, sweet, and spicy! The piquant flavor combo of tangy pickles, sweet onion, and zesty thousand island dressing complements the seasoning of the burger patty beautifully. 7.5
3 Mouthfeel — Outstanding! Bread, spread, filling, and garnish, all working together to create a very balanced and satisfying bite. 8.5
4 Quality/Freshness — Mixed. The veggies tasted fresh and ripe, but the beef patty was average in quality, a little dry, and may have been previously frozen. 6.5
5 Integrity — Excellent! This burger held together brilliantly. 9.0
6 Atmosphere — A bit of a tourist trap, for sure, and why not? This joint is ideally situated right on the waterfront in the heart of lovely downtown Port Townsend. In addition to the appealing American Graffiti interior decor, this place boasts a shaded outdoor seating area with bay views to rival any White Lotus resort. 9.0
7 Service — Friendly and attentive. 7.5
8 Satisfaction — A worthwhile visit indeed. 7.0
9 Creativity/Uniqueness — A classic burger, neither unique nor creative, but well-executed. 6.5
10 Value — $14.75 with onion rings, a fairly standard value. 6.0
Recommended for lovers of fifties kitsch and diner grub!
