On their website, Ruby’s Roadside Grill advertises “gourmet burgers and fries. Frosty milkshakes. Local beers and wine… and plenty of surprises.” Sounds good to me!

I chose The Seasider, a 6-ounce northwest beef patty dressed with Swiss cheese, a bacon wrapped sweet onion slice (!), lettuce, tomato, and smoky sauce, on a toasted brioche bun.

1 Aesthetics — Beautiful presentation, served open faced so one may appreciate the bacon wrapped onion. The tomato looked a trifle pallid, but seeing those buns covered in gooey sauce and cheese made my heart jump. 7.5

2 Flavor — Juicy and tasty. Both the grilled onion and special sauce were surprisingly sweet and not particularly smoky, giving the whole sandwich a unique flavor profile, like no burger I’ve ever tasted. I enjoyed it, but found that the sweetness overwhelmed the more savory elements. 7

3 Mouthfeel — Very good. The bacon was chewy, but the beef patty was grilled just right with a perfectly browned crust. This sandwich was assembled with care, as well, so I was able to experience all the ingredients in every bite. Kudos! 8

4 Quality/Freshness — High quality and fresh, except for the rather bland tomato. 7

5 Integrity — Solid, strong, and sturdy, with generous servings of vegetables: two slices of tomato, a full leaf of crunchy lettuce, folded in half, and lots of onion. 7.5

6 Atmosphere — An old fashioned drive-in. Spacious and airy inside, with high ceilings and picnic table seating. 7

7 Service — Fair. 6

8 Satisfaction — My appetite was sated, but somehow I still wanted more. 7

9 Creativity/Uniqueness — A creative spin on the bacon Swiss burger. 8.5

10 Value — Priced at 13.95 without sides, a good (but not great) value. 6

You had me at “bacon wrapped sweet onion slice.” Recommended.
