Moe Vegan is a small, family-owned plant-based soul food restaurant that opened in December 2024 after five years of operation as a popular food truck and catering business.
I ordered The Savory Bleu Cheez & Parm Gourmet Beef Burger, a barbecued "beyond" patty, with seasoned shredded cabbage, vegan bleu cheese and parm crumbles, sweet mini peppers, cilantro, vegan mozzarella cheese, mesquite sauce, vegan crack sauce, herbs and spices, on a toasted brioche bun.
1 Aesthetics — Not much to look at: just a bun, some orange goo, and pale shredded cabbage. The evocative menu description of this sandwich and its impressive list of ingredients conjures appetizing images in the imagination with which grim reality cannot compare. 6.0
2 Flavor — Palatable! As a carnivore who grew up in the American south, I was curious about the idea of vegan soul food, and wondered how this particular fusion might be applied to my beloved burger. My verdict: the various “cheese” components were bland and underwhelming, but the “meat” patty, enhanced with southern spices and savory sauces, was tasty. 6.5
3 Mouthfeel — Not bad. Uniformly dense and chewy. Would be enhanced with the addition of something juicy (perhaps a thick slice of tomato) and/or something crunchy (such as sliced cucumber). 7.0
4 Quality/Freshness — Premium ingredients, fairly fresh. 7.0
5 Integrity — Great! A well-constructed sandwich on a sturdy bun. Shredded cabbage is a drag, but it was well-spiced and added welcome texture. 8.0
6 Atmosphere — Very original: metal furniture, Seahawks-green walls, a Seattle skyline mural, and a neon sign decorating the counter which reads “Moe Vegan, Vegan Crack.” There’s even a small VIP Lounge for events and parties. 7.0
7 Service — Fair. I was greeted warmly, but had to place my order through a self-service kiosk. 7 minutes later I was called by name and handed a bag. 6.5
8 Satisfaction — I was moderately satisfied. Enjoyed the experience, and felt great afterward, but must admit that I miss the pork, beef, butter, and other traditional ingredients, textures, and flavors. 6.0
9 Creativity/Uniqueness — Outstanding! A truly unique take on the Great American Cheeseburger. 9.0
10 Value — $15.99 (over $20 after tax and tip) is too much to pay for an average sized burger with no sides. 6.0
I’d like to support this business and will return. Next time I'll try their vegan take on fried cajun seafood! Recommended.
