My favorite spot for a pint of Guinness and a shot of Jameson is Doyle’s Public House, picked by Esquire Magazine as one of the Best Bars in America. They also boast a spectacular menu of classic and contemporary pub fare.

I surprised myself and went for the Black Bean Burger with melted pepper jack cheese, whole leaf lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion, and chipotle mayo on an onion bun.

1 Aesthetics — Mouthwatering to look at, stacked high with colorful veggies peeking out from under the bun. 9

2 Flavor — Absolutely delicious! Bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. 8

3 Mouthfeel — Mighty fine. You experience all the flavors and textures in every bite. 7.5

4 Quality/Freshness — Very fresh, especially the tomato slices, which seem to be the downfall of many a burger elsewhere. 8

5 Integrity — Perfection! Thanks to the substantial onion bun and crispy ingredients, the sandwich held it’s shape magnificently. 10

6 Atmosphere — This is a classic Irish pub, cozy and convivial. I could do without the televised soccer match, but everyone else seems to love it.  7

7 Service — Very good. Perhaps a little slow, but in their defense, the place was packed. 7

8 Satisfaction — The only thing that could possibly make this sandwich more appealing would be to swap out those dry black beans for some juicy ground beef. 7

9 Creativity/Uniqueness — This is how you do it, people. By carefully choosing complementary ingredients, they’ve created a plant-based burger that is a masterpiece of flavor and texture balance. 9

10 Value — $13 with choice of soup, baked beans, green salad, tater tots or potato wedges? Are you kidding me? Now that’s value. 9

Their entire menu is amazing. What can I say? I’ll be back for sure. Highly recommended.

Total Score: 81.5
