Launched at the dawn of the new millennium, Davy’s Burger Ranch is a popular roadside restaurant with outdoor seating, serving burgers, chicken, seafood, salads, soups, tacos, nachos, burritos, quesadillas, hotdogs, corn dogs, fries, onion rings, mushrooms, asparagus, zucchini, ice cream, milkshakes, banana splits, and more.
Feeling adventurous, I tried The Inferno Jalapeño Burger, a 1/3 LB beef patty with ghost pepper cheese, spicy mayo, lettuce, tomato, sliced jalapeño peppers, grilled onions, and organic avocado on a toasted bun.
1 Aesthetics — A big, beautiful, ooey-gooey mess. 7.5
2 Flavor — Absolutely delicious, spicy and savory! 9
3 Mouthfeel — So sloppy and wet, I felt like I was drinking, not eating. 4
4 Quality/Freshness — Excellent! 8
5 Integrity — Total structural failure! It melted in my hands. 3
6 Atmosphere — A small nondescript building next to a strip mall parking lot, with a single walk-up order window. No indoor seating, but plenty of picnic tables outside with red shade umbrellas. 6
7 Service — Very slow, but to be fair, the girl at the order window was already overwhelmed when I arrived, serving ice cream and milkshakes to three different youth sports teams. Standing in line behind the mob of screaming kids, it took 15 minutes to reach the order window, and another half hour to receive my order. 4
8 Satisfaction — Very filling and full of flavor, however, it’s no fun to eat a cheeseburger with a spoon. 5
9 Creativity/Uniqueness — A very creative mix of ingredients. 9
10 Value — At $12.49, a reasonably good value considering the size and quality. 8
Worth a repeat visit, not on a busy Saturday, but on a quiet weekday afternoon. Next time I’ll also probably go for a sturdier burger with fewer ingredients. Recommended.
Total Score: 63.5
